SIX WAYS TO HELP YOUR CHILD SLEEP ON TIME AND INDEPENDENTLY

Sep 22, 2021 | Parenting Tips and advices

Getting your babies to sleep on time is a tough challenge for parents. It becomes more difficult when the child is noisy and needs attention. I know it is hard but it is very much in your hands. So, if your child is never able to sleep peacefully without having you go nuts, you are making a mistake somewhere.

Making a routine of your child’s sleeping and playing time is very important that is accompanied by many small and consistent efforts. These are the ways you can have your child sleep independently and on time gradually.

  1. MAKE A ROUTINE TO SET KID’S INTERNAL CLOCK

As mentioned above, this step carries huge importance in getting your child to sleep at the desired time. If your child does not sleep on time, this means the circadian clock of a child is either not developed or not set to the right routine. So, you will have to start anew. Get your baby to sleep right on the time daily. She will cry, play, or do anything but sleep in the beginning but you have to keep trying.

Not just that you have to get them in bed on time, their playing and other activities also have to be managed accordingly. This is because sleeping on time is a whole lifestyle, not a few hours of effort. So, have them play in the morning and sleep at night.

  1. SING AND READ TO THEM

How do you make your child sleep? If there is something you think works for them, well and good.

However, you can try signing and reading to them can help. It will improve your child’s interest in stories and music that enhances the child’s imaginary power and creativity. Also, once you start reading and singing to them regularly, they will start understanding it as a sign to sleep. So, it will help you set their internal sleep cycle.

  1. DON’T LET YOUR BABY HAVE AN EXTRA NAP IN THE DAY

As said in the first point, sleeping on time is about the whole lifestyle of your kiddo. So, you have to manage their day’s routine too.

Now, it is alright if your child sleeps more than usually, kids do as is normal among babies. But, make sure their naps in the day do not interfere with their nighttime sleep. So, don’t let them have that extra nap that lets them giggle, play, and cry but not sleep in the night. You are a parent so you can find out what is that exact sleep that they take and is healthy for them.

You can involve them in playing during the day. Keep them busy as it can help them a lot in having a good sleep at night.

  1. MAKE BABY’S BED FUN AND COZY

You want your baby to start sleeping away from you and then their bed is simple and plain with a cushion on it. Their bed needs to be fun where they like to go and cozy that can make them sleep without your arms around them.

Do you notice the child starts hating their bed with time? Well, look at their bed. Is it interesting enough? Keep changing their toys or the colors of cushions.

  1. HAVE THEM SLEEP IN A DIFFERENT SPACE

The habits of having your baby sleep in your lap or arms do not work well in the end. So, start making them sleep either in a partitioned room or a different room.

Now when they cry at night, do not hurry to pick them up. Call it hard love or training them but you will have to do it to make them habitual sleeping without you.

  1. BE CONSISTENT AND PATIENT

Remember, it is not going to happen overnight that your child is sleeping peacefully at the right time and away from you. It is going to take time and effort. And for sure, you are going to get frustrated and irritated in the whole process. But believe me, the results of all your efforts are worth it.
