TIKTOK AND ITS DESPERATE CHALLENGES; ARE YOUR KIDS TRYING THEM TOO?

Dec 10, 2021 | Parenting Advice

Nothing has to be right or wrong when everyone is after it. It is just as it is. Just like the challenges over TikTok or any other social media app.

Lately, we are seeing TikTok following the trend of completing the milk crate challenge. You have to stack the crates together and then climb over them. No, it is not as simple as it looks. People fall off almost all of the time. It can cause serious medical issues and has already caused orthopedic injuries as per the reports.

Thanks to the administration, it just banned this challenge and deleted all the posts shared with this hashtag saying that TikTok prohibits the content that glorifies dangerous acts. And so it was. Within hours, the whole TikTok community was mad after this challenge. More and more people tried it and many of them fell.

Dr. Anthony, an orthopedic surgeon in New York, talked about the severity of the challenge saying that it could result in serious problems like broken wrists, torn meniscus, shoulder dislocations, and even spinal cord injuries.

Still, we found many teenagers taking part in it as fun. It is not just about this activity. Social media is full of such foolish challenges and the audience follows them like mads. So, you have to be careful because our kids are their audience.

This article is about how you can check on their activities and control them using a parental monitoring app. But before that, here is what you need to know about your teenager’s trend towards risky activities.

Why Are Teens So Much into Risky Activities?

This is important to mention before you move on to controlling your children’s activities. Teenage is a critical age when the passion to explore and try different things is at its peak. The teens are identifying their interests and exploring their energies. Thus, they want to make everything possible. Moreover, they want to try new things without caring for the risks of danger involved in it.

Teen Energy: Also, experts in child development say teen energy is the unstoppable one. It does not understand threats or risks. So, when they want to do a thing, they make every effort to do it. Such challenges on social media look so fancy and interesting to them and when they become a trend, they consider it a compulsion to follow it.

Social Media Image: Hence, it is not all about their unstoppable energy and passion, they have made social media a platform where they have to make every effort to prove themselves. A social media image is a different thing from what they might actually be as a person. And, the race is so toxic that it makes teens a part of its cycle. So, they have to reflect on themselves as pros according to the latest trends. Thus, they make themselves a part of such risky challenges either with all their happiness or out of compulsion.

Peer Pressure: Then comes peer pressure into play. Conformity with the peer group is another big thing in the lives of teenagers. They would not like to feel like outcasts. Becoming an important part of the team is an achievement for them. So, when the friends are following a trend or becoming a part of some activities, it becomes necessary. Doing the same thing would approve them as being the legit part of the team. Thus, they would do whatever it takes.

How Can A Parental Monitoring App Help You?

Parents have to be extra vigilant during this phase of their kids’ development. They have to tell them the reasonable ways to achieve all the things that they are trying to achieve. Moreover, they can try using a parental monitoring app to keep a check on their social media and other digital activities.

Not just that you can observe their digital life completely but also put restrictions using an app like FamilyTime. It offers extended features to monitor almost all of your kids’ activities.
